Northborough Massachusetts was incorporated as a town in 1766 after it branched off from Marlborough and Westborough and is located along Routes 20, 495, 290, 9, and the Mass Pike Route 90.
Northborough is the hometown of Mark Fidrych who won the 1978 Major League Baseball's AL Rookie of the Year while playing for the Detroit Tigers. Known as "The Bird", he grew up in town and played high school baseball at the Algonquin Regional High School. After his injury shortened career Mark Fidrych moved back to town and was killed on April 13, 2009 while working on his dump truck at his farm at the age of 54.
Northborough utilizes an open town meeting grass roots government and now operates under its own home rule charter. The governing body consists of five elected members of the town's select board and the town membership of registered voters.
Take a ride down route 20 and visit the town of Northborough that provides the setting for several working farms. It is also host to a burgeoning research and development oriented industrial park. Primarily the town serves as a residential area acting as a rural home to Boston and Worcester commuters.
